Key stakeholders of 12 recipient public high schools committed to sustain the iSchools project during the conclusion of the Sustainability Planning Workshop at Benguet State University on October 24-26, 2007. This pledge came after Commission on Audit officials made clear during an earlier open forum that the parents-teachers-community association cannot collect fees, and DepEd must issue an order before the schools can make collections.
The participants to the workshop included the Principal, the Parents-Teachers-Community Association President, and the representative from the Local School Board (LGU) from each recipient public high school assigned to the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College. During the workshop, each public high school prepared a business plan to be implemented to sustain their iSchools lab. The business plan is also a requirement before computers will be deployed in the recipient schools.
An open forum with COA officials was held on the second day to thresh out problems that may occur on the use of the iSchools lab for income generation. The panelist suggested that implementing rules and regulations should be prepared by CICT and DepEd on the use of the iSchools lab as a community e-center. The stakeholders were hopeful that this agreement can be worked out soon.
The iSchools project was initiated by CICT in 2006 to support efforts of the DepEd to incorporate ICT in public high school education towards enhancing classroom learning and instruction. Each recipient PHS will receive 21 computer units, a printer, a projector, Internet connection for one year, and trainings for teachers. The iSchools lab will also serve as a CeC wherein people from the community can use the laboratory after school hours or during weekends. The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College is the partner of CICT for the implementation of the project in Region 1.
